Brand new to fashion modeling? Among the earliest things you will have to do is print a sed card. So what are sed cards, and what should you know about them? Read on for a few things that any new model should know about sed cards.

5. What Are Sed Cards?

Sed cards, also occasionally called sed cards, are similar to resume for fashion models. It contains a set of photos from the model's port, and it shares the model's key stats. Sed cards often also list contact info for the model or for the company for which the model works.

At the core a sed card is a point of contact between the model and a would be employer. Whenever you go on a open call, you will be expected to leave behind a sed card - just as an actress would submit a headshot or a normal worker would leave a resume.

4. What Sort of Pictures Go On a sed Card?

A sed card is similar to a mini, focused portfolio. You need to impress your would be boss, and simultaneously show a bit of range. A sed card usually has a headshot or similar close crop on the foreside, and a group of several photos on the reverse. The reverse of the card should show some variety - different types of make-up, modeling, hair, so on. It is also a great spot to use full body images, instead of the tight crop on the front side of the card.

3. What Info Should Go on a Sed Card?

The info on the sed card has two jobs - to identify size and stats and to share contact info. You should have normal stats like chest/bust, waist, hips, height, and weight. You might want to also list eye color and hair color, but this is less necessary if it changes from time to time. You might also opt to include shoe size.

In terms of the contact info, that's your call. You should include the easiest way for the director to find you. If you've got a website or online portfolio, you could include that. If you have a separate phone number, you could include it. I would almost certainly include an e-mail address also.

2. How Big Is a Sed Card?

Print Shops will sell you on several of different sizes, but the typical size of a sed card is 5. 5" x 8. 5". Sed cards were historically made on A4 sized paper (~8. 5" x 11"), but this changed to A5 size (~5. 5" x 8. 5") in the 70's. The print shop might offer you a slightly tinier size (~5" x 8") to save paper and make the cards less expensive. It's a good idea to keep to the business standard, though.

1. What Quality Paper Should You Use?

Sed cards should be done on top quality, tough card stock. When it comes to paper weight, it should be in the range of 12pt and 14pt. Anything less than 12pt will seem cheap; you don't want to seem cheap. Some printers are starting to offer cards made on photo paper, same as they make "greeting cards" made on photo paper. Even though they might say that it would lead to improved picture quality, a high quality printer can create colors nicely on card stock. You are better off sticking with the typical paper so that your card is thicker and more sturdy, instead of just using the thinner photo paper.
